RAWALPINDI, April 9: The body of Omer Daraz was recovered from the debris of Bano Arcade on Wednesday, five days after the incident occurred, rescuers and eye-witnesses said.

With the recovery of Omer’s body, the death toll in the building collapse incident has risen to seven.

Seventeen-year-old Omer Daraz, a resident of Eidgah Mohallah, was working part time as a sales boy at Bano Arcade. He was a first year student of Government College, Satellite Town.

The rescue operation was stopped after Omer’s body was recovered and handed over to his father.

Union Council Nazim Imran Hayat said at first the rescuers spotted the boy’s hands. “The body had been smashed. It took about eight hours to pull it out from the debris,” he added. Mr Hayat praised the volunteers and the FWO officials for their efforts in the rescue operation.
