LARKANA, April 9: The citizens action committee, Ratodero, on Wednesday expressed its concern over the police apathy regarding the recovering of two kidnapped victims, Mumtaz Markhyani and Naveed Soomro.

Basheer Khan Qureshi, chairman of th Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz, on the occasion, said that if the police failed to recover the kidnap victims and pay compensation to the heirs of Abdul Qadir Jokhiyo and Ghulam Mustafa Sangro, a high school teacher and a farmer, respectively, within the next week, the action committee would again resort to stage a sit-in.

They expressed their concern over the insanitary conditions in the city and criticized the municipal officials and the police for the rising incidence of drug-related crimes.

The operation, jointly supervised by the ASP, City, Mohammed Alam Shinwari, and the municipal staff, cleared footpaths stretching from the Bank Square to the Pakistan Chowk.

Hand-pulled carts were also confiscated during the clean-up operation.

Encroachments were also removed from the vegetable, fish and meat markets. The hand-pushed carts there had been a cause of chronic traffic congestion for a long time.

The police said that encroachments had been removed from three-kilometres-long inter-city roads.
