HYDERABAD, April 9: The Sindh directorate of inland fisheries has launched a programme to disseminate basic information about different aspects of fishing at grass roots level.
In a statement issued here the other day, the director of the inland fisheries said that lectures were delivered by an assistant director and two officers of fisheries department in some secondary schools of Hyderabad from March 20 to 31.
The lectures covered topics of importance of fish and its nutritional value, basic fish culture, introduction of local varieties of fish, fish farming and fish diseases.
He said that the department had decided to extend the programme to other districts of the province, which would not only spread awareness among the students but would also engage the people in fish farming activities.
HESCO: The operation division, Gari Khata, the Hesco has installed seven sub-stations during the month of March 2003 to check low voltage and protect the transformers from any damage during the peak summer season.
A Hesco spokesman told Dawn that the installation of seven sub-stations would also ensure regular power supply to consumers during the summer season.
The places where sub-stations have been installed include Bhurgari Road (Hirabad), Hanif Flour Mills, Dadan Shah Colony (Sarfaraz Colony), Madina Market (Gari Khata), Manzoor Chambers (Gari Khata), Ghaziabad (Gari Khata) and Pathan Colony (Sarfaraz Colony).
