Competitive card for Lahore races

By Aftab Gilani

LAHORE, April 8: A small but competitive card of only five events  has  been chalked out for the midweek Lahore Gymkhana races to be held at the Racecourse on Wednesday.

All races will be contested over the sprinting distance of 1000m.

The Sahiwal Plate, class VII division I has the biggest field of 15 runners barring last-minute withdrawals.

Of them three look to be on chance. They are: top weight Blue Stone, Mohni Road and White Line. Five-year-old roan horse White line, who ran second behind Royal Class on April 2 last is well-placed in the handicap and should pick up the spoils.

In doing so he will be facing some challenge from speedy Blue Stone and in-form Mohni Road. This will be the fifth and last race of the day.

In the supporting and fourth event , the Sahiwal Plate class VII division II, ten runners are taking part, if there are no last-minute  withdrawals.

This seems a battle between  two consistent performers Lucky Credit Queen and Khan Bahadur, who should decide about the winner. Both stand a good chance on handicap and the skill of man in the saddle will be the deciding factor.

Eleven acceptors have been left-in after the scratchings. In this race Las Pal Mas and Brown Bomber, who have registered a win each on previous outings, will be going to make it two in-a-row. The handicap gives an edge to Brown Bomber owned by Malik Riaz Shahid, who loves to see his horses in the winner’s box.

Because of less number of entries only five events have been carded for the afternoon programme, the first to start at 2.30pm.
