KARACHI: People brave hot spell without power

By Our Reporter

KARACHI, April 8: As mercury shot up to 40.5 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, the KESC consumers in many parts of the city stated they braved the dry and hot spell without electricity.

There was no advance notice of power shut-down either. The general public was unaware why they are deprived of electricity almost every day with the advent of summer.

A resident of Malir extension colony complained that most parts of the area were without power from 11 am to 4 pm. Several attempts to draw the attention of the KESC complaint centre fell on deaf ears, the KESC consumer said.

Residents of PECHS Block-6 also complained of frequent power outages owing to which schoolchildren also suffered.

Similar complaints were received from North Karachi, North Nazimabad, Federal B Area and Orangi Town.

A sense of insecurity prevailed among the people at the main Bohri Bazaar in Saddar area, which plunged into darkness around 8pm.

The entire market echoed with the shrieks of children, who had come there to purchase school uniforms and other related articles.

“This has become an order of the day”, said an angry salesman at a school uniform shop.

The eve-teasers also did have their day leaving scores of women in total embarrassment. However, the situation was eased out very shortly as many shopkeepers immediately switched on their power generators.

The KESC gave no reasons for an increase in power failures.
