KARACHI: KU engineer beaten by unidentified students

KARACHI, April 8: Tension gripped the University of Karachi on Tuesday when a group of students beat a non-teaching staff officer of the varsity at the KU administration building and then fled.

According to university officials, students belonging to two orgainzations dragged Engineer Tariq Aziz out of his office and severely beat him with batons.

On hearing his screams, Watch and Ward officials tried to stop the attackers, but they also attacked them and managed to flee before the Rangers posted at KU could arrive.

The Rangers immediately cordoned off the University, closed all main gates and started searching for the attackers. The students wanting to get into and out of the varsity had to wait for approximately an hour under scorching sun at the Silver Jubilee gate of KU before the University allowed ‘detained’ students to leave the campus.

Mr Tariq Aziz said he did know the identities of the attackers, nor did he know why he had received such treatment.

The Karachi University Officers Welfare Association convened an emergency meeting and demanded KU administration to take stock of such ugly incidents and adopt appropriate measures to prevent any such incident in the future.—PPI
