KARACHI: Children from jail visit park

KARACHI, April 8: Twenty children, living with their mothers in the women’s prison, took part in a mela being organized by the community health services department of Aga Khan University Hospital at an amusement park in DHA.

Considering the need for recreational activities for the socially-deprived children, the organizers made special requests to different NGOs to ensure participation of these children in the mela.

A team of Lawyers for Human Rights and Legal Aid with 20 children (between the ages of four and 10) participated in the event.

Children were jubilant and excited to experience life outside the jail premises.

They enjoyed swings and took interest in the face painting session conducted by professional artists.

Presently 205 women, along with 45 children, including 10 infants are languishing in Karachi Women’s Prison.—PPI
