ISLAMABAD, April 7: Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO) Justice (Retd) Saleem Akhtar has asked the Central Board of Revenue (CBR) to make correct assessment of a taxpayer’s income.

The FTO also directed the CBR to ask the inspecting additional commissioner of income tax, Nadeem Munawar Baig, to refrain from framing assessments with undue haste, which might render the assessment unreasonable or arbitrary.

In an official statement issued on Monday, the FTO asked the CBR for compliance report within 30 days of the receipt of his order.

The FTO observed that the complainant’s case was typical example of unjust and unreasonable decision taken by tax officials. Moreover, the perverse assessment was framed in complete disregard of verdict by superior courts to the effect.

The judge said the omissions like undue haste and incorrect assessment without caring to carry out all obligations were tantamount to maladministration.

The decision was taken on the complaint of Mian Brothers Rice Mills, which accused the CBR employees of acts of omission/commission.
