Spaniard gets three-year RI

RAWALPINDI, April 7: The additional district and sessions judge, Syed Pervez Ali, on Monday awarded three years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) to a Spanish man for smuggling heroin.

The judge also imposed a fine of Rs5,000 on the convict, Francisco Danda Bernol. In case of non-payment, the convict would have to undergo another six-month RI.

The convict admitted that airport authorities had seized 1.06kg heroin hidden inside the sole of his shoes.

Similarly, the additional district and sessions judge, Sanaullah Malik, awarded two years of RI to a person for peddling drugs.

The court also imposed a Rs10,000 fine on the convict, Riaz Gul. He will have to undergo another month of jail term, if he fails to pay the amount.

The Westridge police recovered 900 gram charas from the convict.

The convict confessed to his crime due to which the period he had spent in prison during the trial would also be included in the imprisonment period.

The same court also awarded two and half months of RI to another drug peddler.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs5,000 on the convict, Mohammad Ayub. In case of non-payment, the convict would have to serve another month of jail term.

The convict admitted that Chauntra police had recovered 125 gram charas from his possession.

Meanwhile, the court acquitted a person of the charges of abducting and assaulting a woman owing to lack of evidence against him.

The prosecution alleged that the accused, Khalid Mehmood, kidnapped and later assaulted a woman in the jurisdiction of Ganjmandi police station.
