KARACHI, April 7: Reckless driving claimed five lives in the city on Monday.

A young man and his young sister died in a road accident in Federal B Area in the morning.

The police said Syed Athar Imtiaz, aged 25, and his sister Seemee Imtiaz, aged 19, both teachers in private schools, were on way to work in the morning on a motorcycle (SGG-3272) when they were knocked down by a speeding minibus of route-N (JE-3079) near T-Ground in Joharabad.

Both the injured were rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced Athar dead on arrival.

His sister was referred to Jinnah Post-graduate Medical Centre where she died soon after her arrival.

The bus driver, Taj, was arrested on the spot.

The city police chief, Asad Ashraf Malik, took serious notice of the accident and suspended DSP traffic police Riaz Haider and the section officer of the Azizabad traffic section, Ansar, for dereliction of duty.

A four-year-old girl was run over by a minibus in Mominabad police limits.

The police said Hukum Bibi was killed by a minibus of route G-7. She died on the spot.

The body was sent to a hospital for autopsy.

The bus driver escaped.

A young motorcyclist died in a road accident near Hasan Square.

The police said Ahmed Sharif, aged 30, riding a motorcycle was knocked down by a speeding minibus of route D-11. He worked in a private firm situated near Hasan Square.

A man died when he was knocked down by a minibus of route F-21 in Korangi.

SUICIDE: A young girl committed suicide in her house at Orangi Town late Sunday night.

The police said Erum Akhtar, aged 21, resident of sector 4-F of Orangi Town, consumed poison after her mother scolded her.

She died in Civil Hospital early Monday morning.
