France to make fingerprinting mandatory
By Our Correspondent
PARIS, April 7: French Interior Minister Nicholas Sarkozy says that his long-awaited new immigration law would be introduced before Parliament by the end of the month, and it would include the compulsory fingerprinting of applicants for tourist visas.
“That way,” he says, “we’ll have a central data bank on immigrants.”
Another important provision will make it mandatory that governmental authorities verify the attestations provided as a prerequisite to the awarding of visas.
