KARACHI: Baloch leaders discuss unity proposal

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, April 6: Leader of the Opposition in the Balochistan Assembly, Kachkol Ali advocate, said here on Sunday that efforts were being made for the unification of nationalist factions.

Mr Kachkol Ali, who was on a brief visit to Karachi, told Dawn that the unification proposal was at the initial stage, and it was being discussed by the leaders and workers of the nationalist parties.

Replying to a question, he said one could not rule out the possibility of merger of some of the parties at the initial stage.

He added that the fast-changing international and regional situation demanded a broader unity among all the factions of Baloch nationalists and important tribal personalities.

Mr Kachkol, who is also a central leader of the Balochistan National Movement (BNM-Hayee), maintained that his party was ready to play its due role in that regard as it believed that the fraction politics had damaged the cause of nationalism.

GWADAR: Mr Kachkol called for preferring locals in the developmental and job opportunities in Gwadar.

“We are not against any development project in Gwadar, or any other part of the province. But we will not accept the colonisation of Gwadar Town,” he said.

The BNM leader suggested that all investments in Gwadar be allowed under a joint venture scheme ensuring job opportunities for the local people. He added that his party would soon table a motion in that regard in the provincial assembly.

He also demanded cancellation of all “illegal allotments” of land in Gwadar, and urged a through inquiry into the matter.
