ISLAMABAD, April 4: The information ministry has moved a summary before the Prime Minister Secretariat, proposing appointment of Akhtar Waqar Azim as the managing director of Pakistan Television Corporation (PTV), an informed source told Dawn.

The source said the summary had been moved with the consent of Information Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmad. There was a realization that a professional, having lots of experience, should run the affairs of PTV especially when there were many competitors in the market in the shape of private channels, he said.

With the removal of Yousaf Baig Mirza, Akhtar Waqar Azim was asked to officiate as the MD on temporary basis.

The source expressed the hope that the summary would be approved within a couple of days. With the nomination of Mr Azim, manoeuvring by certain quarters and speculation for the said post had ended.
