KARACHI, April 4: Sindh minister for excise and taxation, Rauf Siddiqi, has called for simplification of the present system of assessment of property tax in Sindh so that people may not suffer.

Presiding over a meeting in this regard here on Friday, the minister directed the officers to evolve a simple system for tax assessment and said it should also be ensured that no officer sends bogus assessment challans.

He constituted a committee to work out a simple procedure of tax assessment.

The DG Excise and Taxation, M.B. Khatyan, also constituted a special squad which will help the public in property tax assessment.

The minister directed the officials to examine if old system of taxation can be replaced or changed and brought in conformity with the present situation.

He directed them to speed up the processing of pending cases and hold open katcheries in every district so that problems of the people are resolved and pending cases disposed of at the earliest.

The minister will hold an open kutchery at Delhi Mercantile Muslim Cooperative Housing Society on Sunday to hear public grievances.

The meeting was attended, among others, by secretary of excise and taxation and other officials.—APP
