KARACHI, April 2: A large number of people visited the book fair organized by the Islami Jamiat Talaba under its study aid project at the Urdu University on Wednesday.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony on the 2nd day, Justice (retired) Nasir Aslam Zahid praised the efforts of the organizers and added that the event would enhance students’ reading habit.

“At a time when habit of reading books is becoming uncommon among students, holding of such kind of book fairs would be a contribution towards spread of knowledge”, he added.

He said such kind of activities not only help students organize and manage various kinds of events and programmes but also benefit common students.

Deputy parliamentary leader of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal in the Sindh Assembly, Nasarullah Shajee, called for lifting of the ban on student unions, saying such activities not only promote extracurricular activities in educational institutes but also help students in their studies.

“Holding of such book fairs, lectures and seminars have always been the hallmark of student unions under the IJT in all educational institutions. If the ban on student unions is lifted, it would provide future leadership to the country and help maintain better academic atmosphere in colleges and universities,” he maintained.—PPI
