ISLAMABAD, April 1: Interior Minister Faisal Saleh Hayat claimed on Tuesday the security agencies had retrieved sensitive information concerning the country’s security from the computer of Dr Javaid Khawaja, recently arrested in Lahore.

An amount of 111,500 dollars and 90,000 Afghani has also been recovered from the residence of the doctor during a raid at his house, he said.

The government was trying to put in place a foolproof security system to discourage networks like Al-Qaeda from operating in the country, the minister said. The system would help in weeding out terrorists from the country altogether, he added.

“We want to give the people a sense of security by improving the law and order situation,” he told reporters during an informal talk at Parliament House.

He recalled that the Sindh Rangers had to face resistance when they raided a place in Karachi on the basis of information gleaned from the record confiscated from the residence of Dr Khawaja.

Those who attacked the rangers also tried to escape from the scene, but some of them were arrested.

The search was on to catch the others, he said.

He warned of strict action against those elements having links with Al-Qaeda or other terrorist organisations.

The doors of the Patriot group had been shut on other PPP members, and the number of Patriot members will not increase, he told a questioner.

He said the Patriots members would also observe the anniversary of the late Zulfikar Ali Bhutto in Karachi and Lahore, but would not attend the grand ceremony at Larkana.
