KARACHI: Progress on police reforms reviewed


KARACHI, April 1: The second meeting of the cabinet sub- committee for the review of police reforms and their implementation was held here on Tuesday.

The sub-committee is headed by Sindh Home Minister Syed Sardar Ahmed. Provincial ministers Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim, Chaudhry Iftikhar Ahmed, Usman Malkani, MPAs Nadir Leghari, Mustafa Kamal, Ali Bux Mahar and additional secretary (home) Agha Jan presented their recommendations, which may help in the enforcement of law to check crimes and bring down incidence of terrorism.

The Sindh home minister has also been in contact with the governments of Balochistan, Punjab and the NWFP.

Balochistan Home Minister Sardar Sanaullah Zahri attended the meeting on an special invitation and gave his suggestions. He assured the Sindh home minister of all possible cooperation so that crime growth could be controlled.

The participants of the meeting also held consultations in the light of police ordinance in vogue in the Punjab.

The committee would soon complete the task of reforming the police ordinance-2002.—APP
