Khalid-Hasan, Hamid-Zia pair triumph


KARACHI, March 31: Candyland again won the week-end Swiss League Championship 105 Victory Points (VPs) at Aslam Memorial Bridge Sunday evening.

Contesting with their original pairs of Khalid-Hasan Askari and Hamid-Ziaullah Baig, starting their journey to the top.

Candyland settled their score against Yasmin 21-9, then repulsed Strikers onslaught 22-9 and paved their way to victory stand defeating Mazhar 19-11, Attackers 24-6 and finally EFU, last week’s winners19-11.

Mazhar scored 101 VPs for the second berth, registering four wins from EFU 25-2, Mahmood 24-6 Jamal 16-14 and Memon 24-6. Mazhar, Shoaib, Ghufran and Shahab played splendidly for the team.

Bridge scored 88 VPs for the third birth, winning four matches from Greens 21-9, Aces 17-13, Ten 22-08 and Jamal 21-9, losing third round match to Attackers 7-23.

In the Pairs contest, it was full house as forty pairs contested two houses. The veteran pair of M.G. Siddiqui-S.P. Jamal left the field stone cold in the Green House when they scored 66.68 percent almost 10% ahead of their nearest rivals, Bashir Ahmed-Aslam Yar Khan 56.21 and Dinaz Dubash-Samira Fancy 56.13%.

In the other house, Hasan Sajjad-Yousuf Gheewala of EFU firmly grasped the winning streak when they managed a hairline difference of 0.43 percent over their nearest rival pair S.M. Ozair-Azher Hasan, Sajjad-Gheewala scored 58.85 while second pair scored 58.42 per cent.

M. Azwerul Haque-Syed Ameer Hasan scored 56.91 percent for the third berth.—APP
