Protest against gambling dens

DADU, March 31: A large number of people, including social workers, staged a demonstration outside the press club here on Sunday to protest against the increasing number of gambling and drug dens in the town.

Talking to newsmen, Citizens Action Committee chairman Javed Akhtar Ghaloo and general-secretary Qaim Ali Siyal said these dens were being run in connivance with the police officials.

They threatened to launch a drive against the police if they did nothing in this regard.

COP SHOT DEAD: A police head constable, Essa Channa, 35, was shot dead by an unidentified person at the Hitam Jatoi police check-point on the Indus Highway while he was performing his duty late Friday night.

Dadu town police later handed over the dead body to his relatives after conducting post-mortem. The police have registered a case and have arrested a head constable, Ilyas Gopang, in this regard.

SUICIDE: A 25-year-old man, Photo, committed suicide on Saturday by ingesting pesticide in the Baid village over some domestic problem.
