HYDERABAD, March 31: The Naib district Nazim, Nawab Rashid Ali Khan, has referred the matter of performance of the District Public Safety Commission (DPSC) to the district Nazim, Dr Makhdoom Rafik Zaman, for reviewing its performance.
The decision was taken after the session regarded a letter, written by the DPSC to the district council, as contemptuous.
The letter was written in response to the matter of Shafqat Soho who brought the alleged harassment of the father of a union council Nazim to the notice of the district council through a resolution.
On Friday, the members severely criticized the performance of the DPSC, particularly the behaviour of its chairman, Masood Pervez.
On Monday, Shafqat Soho demanded removal of the chairman, DPSC, and winding up of the commission as well.
He said that the atrocities of the police had increased ever since the creation of the DPSC.
Mr Khan maintained that the DPSC was a product of the Sindh Local Government Ordinance but it had been ineffective so far as the people did not get the required relief.
Referring the matter to the district Nazim, he observed that it should be discussed to make the commission effective.
He suggested that those people should be inducted in the commission who had a good social background.
He said that the performance of the commission’s non-elected members had not been impressive.
He said that the president had directed the bureaucrats to establish a commission at each district as soon as possible.
He said that the bureaucrats had been trying to sabotage the local bodies system.
He remarked that the session would not go into the details of reconstitution of the commission or its legal standing.
