KARACHI, March 31: A coordinated strategy is being evolved for preservation of Sindh’s heritage and for improving cultural centres of the province.
In this regard, schemes will be chalked out for promotion of tourism at Ranikot, Kotdiji, Pucca Qila, Sehwan Sharif, Hyderabad, Moenjodaro, Karachi, and other places.
An international tourism promotion seminar will be organized in Karachi in October or November, and festivals will be organized at all cultural places and tourism spots in the province.
This would help introduce Sindh’s way of living, skills, crafts and culture to the outside world.
Speaking at a briefing by the department of culture and tourism at the Sindh Secretariat, Chief Minister Sardar Ali Mohammed Maher further said that the working of Sindhi Adabi Board, Sindhi Language Authority and other organizations would be made effective with the publication of important books, historical photographs and handwritten manuscripts.
“Historic and cultural places in Sindh will be renovated and rehabilitated, with the provision of facilities to promote tourism,” he said
Apart from restoration of law and order and generation of employment opportunities, the government would make every possible effort for promotion of recreational facilities, he said.
He directed that unnecessary staff in non-functional organizations be slashed and replaced with functional people so that better results could be achieved.
He informed that funds have been released for Gorakh Hill development project which would envisage the construction of road, water supply, mosque and a rest-house.
The chief minister called for early completion of Dadu-Wahi Bandhi road to provide an easy access to motorists for Gorakh Hill. He said police station and check-posts will also be setup on the road to Gorakh Hill for protection of travellers.
He said he would invite the President, Prime Minister and Sindh Governor for a visit to Gorakh Hill and, therefore, the concerned departments should complete the work in time.
Sindh chief secretary K. B. Rind, said that after the establishment of present government, steps have been taken for improvement of places of cultural and historic importance and promotion of tourism.
He informed that necessary facilities will be provided in Sambara Hotel in Larkana, Keenjhar Lake, Sehwan Fort, Lab-i-Mehran Sukkur, Jamshoro, Bhit Shah and Hyderabad.
Mr Rind said that handicrafts will be promoted and proper strategy would be adopted for providing protection to the skills of woodwork, embroidery, khaddar weaving, kashikari etc.—APP
