KARACHI, March 31: The University of Karachi has initiated the installation of a big wind turbine in Amin Goth in collaboration with the Sindh government, KU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Zafar Saied Saify said at a community-oriented health conference in Gharo, district Thatta, on Monday.
He said the wind turbine in the initial phase would help procure some 50,000 litres of water. The project would also be beneficial for the five nearby goths.
Prof Saify said the project was the first step towards poverty alleviation.
He said with the collaboration of universities the foundation of a green revolution had been laid in the province and that the people would soon benefit from its fruits.
He said a professor of Karachi University, Wasim Akhtar, was working on a ‘model village’ project.
The needs of the people would be met by producing electricity through solar energy and obtaining gas through dung. The wing turbine would be utilized for fetching water for irrigating small tracts for cultivation.—APP
