Boy run over by van; girl sets herself afire

RAWALPINDI, March 30: A nine-year-old boy was killed after being run over by a speeding pick-up van in Sihala, while a girl was burnt critically after she set herself on fire in Kahuta on Sunday, police said.

In the first incident, Omer Khan was crossing a road when hit by the van. He was injured critically and died on his way to hospital.

The police took the pick-up driver into custody and impounded the vehicle.

In the second incident, Sher Bibi sustained 45 per cent burns after she set herself ablaze in her house. She was shifted to Rawalpindi General Hospital in critical condition.

According to police, the victim was mentally ill.

In another incident, a jewellery shop owner was swindled by two persons in Dhoke Chaudhrian on Sunday, the police said.

The owners of Rana Golden House, in a complaint lodged with the RA Bazaar police, said two persons entered his shop on Sunday and asked him to show them some gold necklaces.

The police said after the two persons left, the shopkeeper listed the items and found two necklaces missing.

Meanwhile, two newly-born babies were found from Chaklala and I-9 on Sunday.

One of the babies was spotted lying abandoned in bushes in Chaklala by some passers-by.

The other baby was found, wrapped in a sheet at a deserted place in the I-9 Industrial area, by the police.
