KARACHI, March 29: Blue’s Night, the six-year-old thoroughbred grey mare on song to make it two winners in a row for owner Ashok, starts off as our day’s best, when the Winter Gymkhana Meeting gets under way at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.
Participating in the fourth race going over the sprinting distance of five furlongs with 13 runners in the field, the speedy sprinter should have absolutely no difficulty in passing the winning post ahead of the lion hearted Great Bakht and Just In Fun, while turning for home.
All in all, seven events have been chalked up on the racing card. The first five will be contested over five furlongs, while the last two will go over six.
The first race begins at 1-30 p.m.
Another runner that should also register two winners in a row on Sunday afternoon is Mrs. Shahzadi Erum’s dark bay colt Sardar. The thoroughbred sibling from Fearless Leader out of Veritas, registered a splendid victory over 10 days ago, cutting the fancied chestnut Ray Of Light down to size.
Sardar trained by Iftikhar Ali, should be followed home by Royal Lancer and Sweet Emotions in the fifth race going over five furlongs.
In the concluding event another runner that should win with ease if called upon to do so is Lady’s Love, a chicken in the weights carrying only 7-9 on her back going over six furlongs.
Trained by Allah Judrio, the chestnut filly from Strides by Strides out of As Asiana, looked very impressive while beating Free Lancer by 8 1/4 lengths on tight reins with jockey Tariq Mahmood in the saddle, but that victory came nearly six weeks ago.
Also in the reckoning is the Shareek-Classic Touch sibling Captain Crash, owned by leading stud owner Faisal Farooq, with two straight victories already in the bag. Among those two wins, the chestnut colt had the last one over six furlongs.
The bay horse Laurel will also be joining the fray, but danger lurks in the shadows in the form of Love U Lady, who could easily upset the applecart if called upon to do so.
In the first race of the afternoon, Yousuf Dada’s bay mare Rukhsar, beaten by a short head by Daru on Wednesday, should make amends and pick up the spoils, with top weight Law Of Nature and the grey horse Millennium Era carrying only 7-10 on his back, taking the two place berths.
Pervaiz Khan’s bay gelding Striker finishing second on Wednesday to Bye Bye, should win this time with the same rider Muzaffar Hussain aboard, sprinting past the winning post ahead of the inform Even Top and Daru.
Ford Mustang with jockey Shehzad aboard, struggled on Wednesday to finish a poor third behind Blue’s Night and Ceasar’s Palace going over five furlongs.
With that run under his belt, Ford Mustang going over the same distance looks all set to present Yousuf Dada with a double on the afternoon’s programme, with Prism Of Life and High Speed providing the challenge in a field with 15 runners in contention.
In the sixth race to be run over six furlongs, the chestnut horse Free Lancer is fancied in these columns to win the event, although letting down his supporters in his last four outings. Welcome Shahtab and Jugni should be engaged in a keen duel for the second spot, with the chestnut filly High Standard trained by Cajetan Calaco providing the element of surprise, if Free Lancer decides to play truant once again.
