HYDERABAD, March 29: Federal and Sindh government departments owe Rs649.414 million to the Water and Sanitation Agency under the head of water charges.
In a statement issued here on Friday, the recovery coordinator of Wasa, Hyderabad, said Rs248.926 million was outstanding against Federal government departments and Rs400.488 million against Sindh government departments.
He said Wasa had decided to accelerate the pace of recovery with the help of law enforcement agencies so that salary and pension amounts could be disbursed on time.
He said notices had been issued to domestic, commercial and bulk consumers, including Federal and Sindh government departments, that their water supply would be disconnected if they did not pay the dues by April 21.
The Sindh government departments which have to pay dues to Wasa include Site, Hyderabad, Liaquat University Hospital, C and J Hospital, Zubaida College, Comprehensive School, BISE, Hyderabad, building department, central jail, SRTC, Hyderabad, Latifabad and Qasimabad taluka offices, district council, sports complex, Paretabad Hospital, Government Boys College, Kali Mori, Polytechnic College, Machinery Division, Police Stations, rangers, public health and EDOs, health, education, agriculture, law and revenue. The Federal government departments include the Cantonment Board, Sindh Regimental Centre, Qasim Rangers, Pakistan Railways, Garrison Engineer, Thar Rangers and the Pak Rangers.
Films on agriculture: The Directorate of Agriculture Information, Sindh, will show films to farmers on wheat harvesting, cotton sowing and efficient water management.
In a statement issued here on Saturday, a spokesman for the directorate said of the two mobile film vans, one would cover Mirpurkhas Sanghar, Nawabshah, Naushahro Feroze, Hyderabad, Thatta and Badin, and the other would show films to farmers in Dadu, Larkana, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Ghotki, Sukkur and Khairpur.
He said films would be shown in 100 villages in the first round to be completed by May 11 and 100 more villages would be covered by the end of June in the second round.
The film on water management will show various methods for efficiently using available water so that maximum area can be brought under cultivation and water losses are prevented.
Agriculture extension officers of their respective areas will accompany the mobile units to answer questions of growers.
ARREST DEMANDED: The disciples of Dargah Lowari Sharif, Badin, have demanded the immediate arrest of murderers of Ali Mardan Chandio.
Speaking at a news conference at the local press club the other day, they said that the manager of the shrine caretaker was murdered in Badin on March 12.
They said that an FIR was lodged against Pir Maatuq, Asif Shah, Yaseen Gopang and Dhani Bux Gopang.
They claimed that a conspiracy to commit murder was hatched by Pir Maatuq, Asif Shah instigated the murder and Yaseen and Dhani Bux had executed the conspiracy.
They said that the police had arrested three persons but the real culprits were still roaming about freely.
They warned that if the police delayed the arrest of the accused, the disciples of the shrine would resort to protest.
