KARACHI, March 29: Taking notice of misuse of powers by the DCO Karachi and EDOs, the city Nazim, Naimatullah Khan, on Saturday asked them to refrain from issuing orders for transfers, postings and promotions, which were beyond their authority.
In a letter to DCO and all EDO of respective city government departments, he also asked the officials to go through the notification issued by the Sindh government on Oct 26, 2002, in which powers and limitations of these officials have been described in detail.
According to city government sources, DCO Karachi Mir Hassan Ali ordered promotion of some city government officials, for which he had no authority under the SLGO.
In addition, he was also found using the authority of various EDOs, which amounts to misuse of authority and power and intervention into the affairs of EDOs.
Taking notice of these irregularities, the City Nazim referred to a notification by the Sindh government and asked them to issue transfer, posting and promotion orders in accordance with the notification, otherwise, disciplinary action would be taken against them.
Meanwhile, inaugurating an office of UC-7 and a fountain, the Nazim said that the elected leadership of the city government had given special attention to the health and education sectors and allocated 31 per cent of funds for education and 19 per cent for health in its 2002-2003 budget which is a record in Karachi’s history.
The Nazim said the way the UC-7 worked in the absence of its Nazim Faizanullah was highly appreciative and an example for others.
He said after conversion of dental college in Block-16 into a cardiac hospital, a great deal of facility would be available for the people of Gulberg and adjoining areas whereas the establishment of its own web-site would also facilitate the people to become aware of the UC’s performance.
On the occasion, Fateha was also offered for the departed souls of Salman Farooqi and Masood who were killed in firing by alleged terrorists.
SSGC: City Nazim Naimatullah Khan, on the invitation of the managing director of the Sui Southern Gas Company, Munawar Baseer, visited the SSGC’s head office and discussed matters of common interests, besides the issue of gas bills.
The SSGC MD informed the City Nazim that SSGC had been billing its customers accurately, based upon their actual gas consumption.
The company, he pointed out, had carefully checked its billing system and found that it was functioning smoothly. — APP
