PARIS, March 28: The foreign ministers of France and Russia, Dominique de Villepin and Igor Ivanov, respectively, have called for an immediate end to fighting in Iraq.

The demand was made on Thursday in an official Russian communique which declared that the two foreign ministers had “come to an agreement” on the “necessity” that combat in Iraq be ended.

Quai d’Orsay spokesman Bernard Valero acknowledged the existence of the accord and said that it was the result of a telephonic conversation the other day between the two men.
