KARACHI: Lack of depots hindering bus operations

KARACHI, March 28: Sindh minister for transport, Adil Siddiqui, on Friday held a meeting with the operators of the Urban Transport Scheme in his office, and inquired about the hurdles faced by them in the launching of bus operations .

The transporters criticized the city government for failing to materialize its policies announced in the earlier meetings. Many operators informed the minister that they could bring new buses in a couple of days, but in the absence of depots there was no place to keep them.

Besides 14 operators of the UTS, the meeting was attended by the provincial secretary transport, the EDO transport and others.

The transporters were told that the issues of KTS bus terminals and subsidy to the operators were being discussed with ACS( finance) and were expected to be resolved soon. The transporters were asked to be in constant touch with the EDO transport and communication. Abbas Khan Niazi of the Blue Lines mentioned the well disciplined and organised road-based public transport system in Turkey.—PPI
