Monetary dispute claims three lives

By Our Correspondent

GUJRANWALA, March 27: Three people, including a girl, were shot dead while five others injured by their rivals at Butranwali village on Thursday.

Reports said two contractors, Bashir and Riaz, quarrelled over a monetary dispute a few days ago. During the clash between both the groups, the supporters of Bashir tried to take their rivals’ donkeys. However, some people mediated between the groups.

Thereafter, Riaz’s group lodged a complaint with the police against their opponents. Learning about it, Bashir and his accomplices came to Riaz’s house and opened indiscriminate fire on the inmates, who were asleep.

Muhammad Shafi, 60, Muhammad Ishaq, 70, and Samina, daughter of Muhammad Aslam, died instantly. Those injured are Riaz, Shahid, Tariq, Rafiq and Zahida. They were admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital.

According to the injured, the suspects tied them with ropes and fired at them. Police have registered a case against Muhammad Akbar, Muhammad Arshad and four others.

Demanded: PML-N acting president Makhdoom Javed Hashmi has demanded that the government should condemn the US aggression against Iraq.

Speaking at a party meeting here on Thursday, the PML-N leader said the government wanted to run the National Assembly with a ‘remote control’, but we would not allow it to do so and continue to raise a voice against its defective policies.

He said his party would cooperate with opposition parties for the restoration of democracy in its original form.

FREED FROM DETENTION: The district sessions judge on Thursday ordered arrest of a sub-inspector, who kept two brothers into illegal confinement at the Model Town police station.

Information reaching here on Thursday revealed that Model Town police station Sub-Inspector Imran Saleem picked up Zulfiqar Ahmad and Iftikhar Ahmad from their house at the behest of their rivals, and detained them without registering a case.

A bailiff of the district sessions judge raided the police station and freed the brothers. He produced them in court.

Judge Riazul Hassan Alvi summoned the SHO and SI, warning them that they would be sent behind the bars, if found guilty in future.

Meanwhile, a bailiff of the sessions court raided the Aroop police station and retrieved a youth, Muhammad Amin, from lock-up. He produced him in court.

The court summoned the SHO and an investigating officer, but they didn’t appear. Issuing their warrants, the court directed the police higher-ups to produce them in court on the next hearing.

However, warrants of the SHO was withdrawn when District Police Officer Saud Aziz assured the judge that action would be taken against the accused police officers.

JOIN PML-Q: At least 36 members of the District Bar Association joined the PML-Q here on Thursday.
