KARACHI: UC Nazims asked to monitor uplift plans


KARACHI, March 27: Sindh Local Bodies Minister Muhammad Hussain Khan on Thursday stressed on UC Nazims to personally monitor the ongoing development schemes in their respective constituencies.

Addressing a meeting of town and union councils Nazims of Saddar Town Karachi at the Sindh Local Government Commission (SLGC) office, he said the role of institutions such as the SLGC in the success of the system and check and balance is very important and the present government was playing its role for the stability of the institutions and the system.

He said the present government was making efforts to upgrade and improve the local government system by amendments with the recommendations of all the Nazims of Sindh, and it also wanted to remove the administrative and financial hurdles to run the system swiftly.

The minister urged all Nazims to prepare development schemes to the benefit of the people, and that funds should not be spent on just “show-off schemes”. He directed the Saddar Town Nazim to recruit workers on contract basis wherever there was lack of sanitary workers to solve the problem.

He said that for each UC Rs3.5 million had been approved and Rs One million released to each UC. He added the remaining funds would also be released soon.—PPI
