KARACHI: Rural areas to be given attention, says Nazim
KARACHI, March 27: City Nazim Naimatullah Khan has said that the next financial year will be the year of development of rural areas and villages.
“After paying attention to the development of Karachi, we will now specially focus on its rural areas”, the City Nazim said while talking to residents of Mubarak Village of UC-8, Keamari Town on Thursday.
Naimatullah Khan said he had personally visited the rural areas and their village where no government official or ruler had ever gone before.
The Mubarak village is a 300-year-old settlement which is 35km away from Keamari. It lacks the facilities of water, electricity, school, hospital etc.
On the occasion, the Nazim was informed that in the past the village union council used to have an annual income of Rs 15 million on account of Octroi, but nothing was done for the people.
After the establishment of the city government, it was pointed out that on the directive of City Nazim, the reconstruction of 35 km long road under Khushhal Pakistan programme and construction of a bridge to connect it with Karachi is in progress while work on Mubarak Dam has started at a cost of Rs 4.2 million to resolve the water issue.
The Nazim Karachi said that planning should be carried out at the union, town and city level for provision of more facilities to such villages.
He said immediate steps be taken to start a health centre. He said the city government will arrange medicines and doctors.
On the occasion, he directed the EDO Education to organise surprise visits by education inspectors to bring an improvement in primary and secondary schools and to ensure attendance of teachers and students.
The EDO health was directed to take steps for running a dispensary with the cooperation of private sector for promoting health facilities in the village.
The Nazim announced a grant of Rs 2 million on behalf of Keamari Town for the development of Mubarak village.
Later Naimatullah Khan distributed school books and uniforms provided by the Fishermen Cooperative Society for village children.
Addressing ceremonies after inaugurating various schemes in Landhi Town on Wednesday night, the Nazim said the city government Karachi, its towns and union councils have jointly carried out record development schemes. He said no area was left in Karachi where development works had not been carried out.—APP
