Yaqoob and Ashiq share day’s honours
KARACHI, March 26: Mobile phones which have proved to be a great source of convenience to the public in this jet set era, is now proving to be a hindrance at the Karachi Racecourse, where cheating has risen to the highest level and the nothing can be done to control this nuisance.
At the Karachi Race Meeting held on Wednesday afternoon, a few jockeys going up to the starting gate had these phones hidden under their colours and to add fuel to the fire, some grooms allowed to take their charges up to the starting gate were also seen operating with mobile phones.
It is high time that action should be taken by the Racecourse Stewards and unless mobile phones are banned from the premises this kind of cheating will go on unchecked and horseracing over here will slowly die out.
Coming back to horseracing, the day’s honours were shared by owner- trainer M. Yaqoob and jockey Ashiq Ali, who combined their talent to finish the afternoon’s programme with a brace of winners in the fifth on Black Magic and the blue roan Order Of The Day in the concluding event respectively.
The first race of the afternoon was won by Daru partnered by riding boy Zahoor Ahmed, after beating Rukhsar by a short head.
After Bye Bye beat Striker and Even Top to pick up the spoils in the second race, outsider Bank Manager ridden by Asif Khan II won the third race from Silent Fire and front runner Raysham, after Khas ul Khas was not allowed to run on merit.
The grey mare Blue’s Night rewarded owner Ashok with a much awaited victory, galloping to victory in the fourth event in a start to finish bid, with Ceaser’s Palace grabbing the second spot from Ford Mustang and the bay mare Look At Me.
The next race meeting is scheduled to be held on Sunday, March 30.
