LAHORE, March 26: Robbers shot dead a man and injured his son critically at Younus Park in Gujjarpura on Wednesday.

However, the inmates caught one fleeing intruder and gave him a thrashing and hit him with bricks, causing him serious injuries.

The police said four gunmen burst into the house of Muhammad Ashraf, 50. His son Shahid Ali, 30, put up resistance and the miscreants opened fire. The man and his son sustained critical injuries. Other family members attacked the alleged robbers with bricks and sticks. One of the gangsters was caught and the other managed their escape.

The nabbed man was beaten up severely by the inmates. Both Shahid and the arrested robber were admitted to the Mayo Hospital where their condition was stated to be precarious.

The body was sent to the city mortuary for autopsy. A case was registered and the police claimed they were waiting for the injured robber to regain conscious to make further arrests.

SUICIDE: A vendor allegedly hanged himself in Gujjarpura on Wednesday.

Police said Muhammad Rafiq had been finding difficult to meet family expenses.

The body was returned to the family without autopsy.
