KARACHI, March 25: Karachi “A” trounced Multan 7-2 in the preliminary round last match of National Under-19 Hockey Championship at UBL Sports Complex on Tuesday.
Having the services of three Pakistan under-19 players in their fold, the home team dominated the exchanges with and deservedly led 2-1 at half time.
Left winger Abbas Haider, full back Adnan Hamid slammed two goals each. Left-in Rizwan Khan, right out Imran Khan and substitute Flakboos Ansari scored the other goals for Karachi.
Waheed Aslam and Ovais Sultan scored one goal each for Multan.
After a sluggish start, Karachi “A” took the lead in 18th minute with a field goal from Abbas Haider. However, Waheed Aslam drew level for Multan by scoring off penalty corner in the 29th minute.
Two minutes from the break Rizwan Khan again put Karachi ahead with a field effort.
The second half saw Karachi “A” at their best as they struck five times.
Soon after resumption, Adnan Hamid converted his team’s second and third penalty corners to make it 5-1. In between Muhammad Imran scored a field goal.
Multan hit back in 47th minutes when their prolific scorer Ovais Sultan made it 5-2.
But Abbas Haider netted his second goal and Flakboos Ansari completed the tally eight minutes from the hooter.
Karachi “A” mustered ten penalty corners but converted two to Multan’s five.
Both team’s were assured a place in the final rounds of the championship.
Meanwhile, Peshawar cemented their position for a place in final round on Tuesday after recording 5-1 victory against Rawalpindi at S.M Lala Ayub Hockey Stadium here.
It was the second win of Peshawar in it pool of four teams and with two victories Peshawar virtually assured a place in the final round to be played at Faisalabad from Apr 4.
In the other match Kohat beat Northern Areas 4-2 after the teams were locked 2-2 at half-time.
Hazara went down fighting against Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) 1-0 in the last match of the day.—APP
