KARACHI, March 25: Only six events have been drawn up for the Winter Gymkhana Meeting, which gets under way on Wednesday afternoon, at the Karachi Racecourse.
All the races will be contested over the sprinting distance of five furlongs with the first race commencing at 2.00 p.m.
In the fourth event in a big field of 18 runners, the bay five- year-old horse Ford Mustang, after his comfortable victory in his last outing over a month ago, starts off as our day’s best and should make it two triumphs in a row for the connections with the bay horse Mark and the grey mare Blue’s Night providing a close challenge to the winner throughout the race.
Also fancied to win in these columns is M. Zafar’s chestnut horse Ray Of Light, passing the winning post ahead of Great Bakht and Black Magic in the following event, to make amends for his last defeat against the dark bay colt Sardar.
Another runner that should win is the blue roan Order Of The Day. Rather unlucky in his last few outings, Order Of The Day should at last oblige his large band of followers and pick up the spoils in the concluding event, holding off the stiff challenge from Knight Fighter and Sapno Ki Rani.
In the opener, Law Of Nature finishing second to Bye Bye in his last outing, should this time make improvements and win the race from Royal Beauty and Sunday Silence, although burdened to carry a heavy load of 9-4 on his back.
The same could be said about the bay gelding Striker, beaten on the post last week by Lawrence Of Arabia, but fancied in our column to beat the rest of the field in the second race with the in form Even Top and Splendid Winner grabbing the next two spots.
The chestnut horse Silent Fire is our fancy to oblige his connections in the third event. After finishing second under M. Akram last week to Prism Of Life, Silent Fire with a good lad astride, should reach the winning post ahead of Rich Valiant and the speedy front runner Little Sunny.
