KARACHI, March 25: A suspected bandit was shot and injured in Gulistan-i- Jauhar on Tuesday, in what the police claimed an encounter with bandits.

The police said two suspects were busy robbing a taxi driver behind Iqra Complex in Block 17 of Gulistan-i-Jauhar when a passing police mobile spotted them.

When the suspects saw the police, they opened fire at the police mobile in an attempt to escape, the police claimed.

The injured suspect were taken to Jinnah Post-graduate Medical Centre (JPMC).

DIES: A young man died when the pistol he was cleaning went off accidentally in Clifton late Monday night.

The police said Mohammed Anwar Pasha, aged 30, was cleaning a pistol in his apartment at Marine Drive in Clifton when the pistol went off accidentally. He suffered a bullet wound to his thigh.

When his brother returned home several hours after the incident and found no response from inside, he informed the police.

The police broke down the door and found Pasha lying in a pool of blood. He was rushed to the JPMC where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival. Sources at the hospital said the man died of excessive bleeding.

ARRESTED: The police arrested two bandits who had hijacked a car in PECHS on Tuesday.

The police said two suspects hijacked the car of Mr Asif (ABS-650) at the traffic signal near Noorani Kabab House. A policeman posted at Taimuria police station, who happened to be there, saw the incident and raised alarm.

DSP Ferozabad Ali Raza told this reporter that two policemen of Ferozabad police station, who were patrolling on a motorcycle, intercepted the car and arrested the two suspects. They were identified as Shahzad and Rais. Two pistols were recovered from their possession.
