UK expels two Iraqi diplomats

LONDON, March 24: Britain ordered the expulsion of two Iraqi diplomats on Monday, the Foreign Office said.

The head of the Iraqi interests section at the Jordanian embassy has been declared “persona non grata” and the administrative attache of the Iraqi interests section “not acceptable,” the foreign office said in a statement.

The statement said “the ambassador of Jordan has been informed of this decision and asked to arrange for the departure of the two Iraqi diplomats within five working days.”

The US State Department announced on March 20 that it had asked governments to shut down Iraqi embassies and diplomatic missions in their respective countries until new authorities were in power in Baghdad.—AFP
