Pakistan, India troops trade fire

JAMMU, March 24: Indian and Pakistani troops exchanged fire across the Line of Control in occupied Kashmir on Monday, underlining tensions in the region after 24 Hindu villagers were shot dead.

A defence official reported intermittent firing, using mortar and heavy-machine guns, across the LoC.

In the same area, which is in the south of Jammu and Kashmir, police said three Indian civilians, including two women, were killed in heavy shelling which lasted for three hours on Sunday morning.

Earlier, police said 24 Hindu Kashmiri villagers had been shot dead overnight in the village of Nadi Marg.—Reuters
