I will prove my worth in county: Waqar
LAHORE, March 24: Sacked Captain Pakistan Cricket team Waqar Younis plans to play county cricket to prove his merit to be recalled in the national team.
Pakistan Cricket Board sacked Waqar Younis after the dismal performance in the World Cup 2003 and National selection committee dropped him from the Sharjah bound squad to play Tri-series from April 01 to 10.
Talking to reporters at Gaddafi Stadium here on Monday Waqar said he was disappointed for not being selected in the team but will never give up and continue playing cricket.
“I intend to play county cricket in England to prove my mettle. The selectors will have to pick me for the team on my performance basis,” he added.
Waqar detailed that he had asked his manager in England to have contract for him with some county for the coming domestic season starting next month. He said time and again, he has said that he alone was not responsible for the dismal performance of the team in the World Cup 2003.
Reliable sources disclosed that Waqar, while submitted his report to PCB review committee, had attributed the defeat to the non-cooperation of some of the team fellows.
It is worth mentioning that team coach Richard Pybus has also reported to the review committee of non co-operation of the players to the captain during World Cup 2003.—PPI
