SUKKUR, March 24: About 150,000 acres of land would be distributed among landless Haris in the Ghotki district, Sindh Chief Minister Sardar Ali Mohammed Mahar said on Monday.

Referring to the rural electrification programme, the chief minister, while speaking at various public meetings in Daharki, Mirpur Mathelo and Ubaro, said that some 120 villages would be electrified during the current financial year.

The Sindh chief minister took serious notice regarding complaints of shortage of water in various irrigation canals in upper Sindh and warned the officials of the irrigation department that irrigation water should be provided to the growers in accordance with their quotas.

He warned the officials of the irrigation department against corruption, saying that anyone found involved in irregularities would be dealt severely.

Mr Mahar assured the labourers of the Pak-Saudi Fertilizers, Engro Chemicals, Liberty Power Plant, Mari Gas Field and Tallo Gas Field regarding resolution of their problems after consultations with the managements of the multinational companies.

He said that he had already negotiated with the management of these companies for recruitment of local people.

Earlier, when the chief minister arrived in Daharki, the sacked assistant sub-inspectors of police staged a demonstration and demanded for reinstatement to their respective jobs.

These ASIs were recruited during the tenure of the PPP and were sacked by the PML-N government.

The chief minister announced establishment of a degree college in Daharki while also announced to upgrade the local rural health centre into a full-fledged hospital.
