SWABI, March 24: The Tehsil Council Swabi elected Israr Ahmad its convener on Monday.

The election was held through show of hands with 38 members, out of 51 in the house, raising hands in favour of Mr Ahmad. Thirteen members raised their hands in support of Rashid Khan. The house strength is 55.

However, Mr Khan alleged that the election was not held according to rules.

Some members who wanted to disturb the proceedings were told by presiding officer Mustafa Kamal to respect the agreement signed by the councillors some 10 days ago.

The agreement said the house would be convened to elect its convener as the former convener had gone abroad.

Later, the presiding officer prorogued the session for an indefinite period.

RECTOR HONOURED: Dr Muhammad Naseer Khan, the Rector of Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology, has been awarded Sitara-i-Imtiaz on account of his meritorious services in the realm of engineering sciences and technology.
