KARACHI, March 24: Dusty winds blew across the city on Monday as a result of what the Met office termed development of a pressure gradient in Karachi.
While the weather remained hot earlier in the day, winds, accompanied by dust, started to blow across the city towards the afternoon.
The chief meteorologist of the Pakistan Meteorological Department, Arif Mehmood, told Dawn that a new weather system had caused a pressure gradient to be developed which was responsible for dusty winds.
“This kind of weather system visits Karachi almost every year towards the end of March and early April. This is a temporary weather system which lasts only for a couple of days,” he explained.
The Met office said that humidity level, which was the amount of moisture in the air, had dropped on Monday. “On Sunday there was 61 per cent humidity which came down to 57 per cent on Monday. The city started to sizzle when mercury rose to 36 degrees Centigrade on Monday but the minimum temperature was 22°C.
