KARACHI, March 24: The Sindh High Court Bar Association has set up a relief fund for Iraqi children as a token of its solidarity with the victims of the US-led invasion of Iraq.
An SHCBA general body meeting held on Monday said in a unanimous resolution that “the naked Anglo-American aggression has not been motivated by altruistic ideals but by the base design of capturing the wealth of the second largest producer of oil in the world.
“We demand that the invaders account to the United Nations for the proceeds of the oilfields they have occupied to ensure that the wealth of the Iraqi people is preserved for their own welfare and does not fill the coffers of Anglo-American multinationals,” it added.
The SHCBA said it was not so much awed by the unleashing of hundreds of missiles in a single night on unarmed civilian Iraqis as by the brave resistance put up by them. It deplored that the Pakistan government had failed to take “an unambiguous and concrete stand to condemn the attack.”
Praying for the success of the Iraqi nation, the association urged its members to contribute generously to the relief fund.
The meeting was presided over by SHCBA President Muneer A. Malik and addressed by Sindh Bar Council Vice-Chairman Yasin Azad, Pakistan Bar Council member Abul Inam and Karachi Bar Association President Mohammed Ali Abbasi.
