Baghdad to respect Geneva Conventions

BAGHDAD, March 23: Defence Minister Sultan Hashem Ahmad said on Sunday that Iraq would respect the Geneva Conventions in its treatment of US and British prisoners of war.

“We are committed to the Geneva Conventions. Our values, our religion and our manners make us treat prisoners of war the way they deserve to be treated.”

Meanwhile, Iraq’s Foreign Minister Naji Sabri called on Arab governments to “confront” the US-led war, which he said threatened all Arab countries, as he arrived in the Syrian capital early Sunday.—AFP
