Intikhab beats seasoned Abjad in thriller

ABBOTTABAD,  March 23: Major Asim, Hurr Hussain, Ahmed  Jilani and Captain Intikhab qualified for the semi final of the Jashn-e-Azadi  Police  Cup Squash Tournament in the main round, Shah Zeb Tariq and Saad qualified for the  final in the junior section after  defeating their rivals in the matches played here  at  PSF Squash Complex on Saturday.

Major Asim of Frontier Force Centre defeated Captain Rashid of Pakistan Military Academy Kakul without raising a sweat 9-1, 9-6 and   9-4, while Hurr Hussain of Abbottabad faced no difficulty to defeating Major Rashid of PMA Kakul by 9-4, 9-2 and 9-3.

Ahmed  Jilani of Iqra Academy defeated talented  and  upcoming youngster from the Army Burn Hall school Wajeh Asif 9-5,10-8 and 9-6 in a closely contested match.

The clash between young Captain Intikhab and seasoned player Major Abjad  went to the fullest and the fate of  the  match  was decided after a long battle of five games which lasted more  then one  hour. In this gruelling encounter, Captain Intikhab came out victorious by a 3-2 margin, in an all  PMA affair.

In the junior section Shah Zeb Tariq defeated Zoheer Rana in the first semi final, while Saad defeated Wajahat bin Zayad in  the  second semi final.

In  the veteran  category, Tariq Mehmood defeated  Col.  Ehsan  in the first semi final, while Major Rashid beat Major Rana in the second semi final.
