Autonomous status for Gordon College sought

ISLAMABAD, March 23: The Old Boys Association of Gordon College at its meeting held here on Saturday adopted a resolution asking the Punjab government to grant autonomous status to the college.

The meeting and to constitute a board of governors for its management.

The Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir, Sardar Sikandar Hayat Khan, presided over the meeting.

The AJK prime minister presented memorial shields to some of the outstanding teachers of Gordon College including Dr R.R Stewart, Dr Raees Ahmed Khan and Prof Khawaja Masud.

The shields posthumously presented to Dr Stewart and Dr Cummings which were received by the representative of Presbyterian Church of Pakistan.

He also donated gold medals to be awarded every year to the best students of Gordon College, in academic, sports and for contributing to the cause of liberation of Kashmir.

The medals for year 2002 were handed over to the principal of Gordon College during the meeting.

Old Gordonians who attended the meeting include Lt-Gen Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah, the NWFP governor; Shoukat Aziz and Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, federal ministers; Justice Qazi Mohammad Farooq of Supreme Court; justice Sherzaman Chaudhry, chief election commissioner of AJK; federal secretaries Dr Akram, and Ahmed Shamsul Huda; Senator Tariq Azeem; Pervez Butt, chairman Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission, eminent educationist Prof Khawaja Masud; Arshad Nisar and Lt-Gen Mohammad Arif Bangish (retired), former governor of NWFP.
