LONDON, March 21: England batting legend Geoff Boycott has sent Indian captain Saurav Ganguly a personal masterplan for sinking Australia in the final.
Making it clear where his sympathies lie, Boycott sent Ganguly a hand-written fax outlining the keys to victory in the Johannesburg showdown, Friday’s Daily Mirror revealed.
“You can win the World Cup,” Boycott wrote. “Be patient and be cool — just dream you are winning it.”
Boycott, now a respected cricket commentator, was unable to attend the World Cup because he is recuperating at his Yorkshire home following treatment for throat cancer.
But he has been closely following the tournament and spelled out to Ganguly what he believes will determine the outcome on Sunday.
“Catches and run-outs win matches. It’s an old saying but we often forget it,” Boycott wrote.
Boycott went on to urge Ganguly: “You also have to be selfish: do not throw away your wicket and focus on the World Cup only, everything else can wait.—AFP
