KARACHI, March 21: In order to finalize the details of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to be signed in connection with the practicability of Karachi Mass Transit Programme and the Karachi Circular Railway project with China, a meeting was held here on Saturday with Sindh Minister for Planning Shoaib Ahmed Bukhari in the chair.
Minister for Transport Adil Siddiqui, senior Chinese and Pakistani officials also attended the meeting.
The Chinese delegation was headed by the chief representative of the China National Machinery Import and Export Corporation, Huang Qian Li. Chinese Consul-General in Karachi Sun Chunye was also present.
The meeting discussed the improvement plan in the KCR system in accordance with the city’s requirements and implementation of the KMT programme. The details of the MoU were given final shape.
The MoU is expected to be signed during Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali’s forthcoming visit to China.
Mr Bukhari appreciated the cooperation of China for the revival of the KCR and the KMTP and hoped that the projects would further consolidate the relationship between the two countries.
The officials of the CNMIEC and the provincial government presented a report regarding their recent survey in the city.
The meeting was informed that under the plan commuters would be issued tickets which could be valid for travel in buses as well as train. It would be on the choice of commuters to select any mode of transport.—APP
