Rules for security firms finalized

Bureau Report

PESHAWAR, March 19: The NWFP government has finalised rules and regulations to streamline the affairs of security agencies in the province, and the statutes in this regard will be announced soon.

Several private security firms are providing services to the upper-class people, particularly to business in the province, on their own terms and conditions. And according to the present rules, many agencies do not compensate their clients in case of any loss of life or damage to property.

Official sources told Dawn here on Wednesday that the government was planning since long to prepare rules and regulations for the security agencies as they did not share responsibility with the law enforcement agencies in case of any mishap.

The government, they said, had finalised rules and regulations for the security agencies, which would be announced within a couple of days.

As per proposed rules, every security company would have to employ minimum 25 persons having past experience in the field, and each firm would have to submit Rs200,000 as security with the government treasury, the sources said.

All the security agencies would provide complete information about their employees before their recruitment. They would also get prior approval from the home department before firing any of their employee, the sources added.

“The government was making rules on the patron of Punjab government, which has been recently announced for the security agencies,”  said project manger of the Most Accurate Knight (MAK) security services, Fida Mohammad Khan.

Sheding his responsibility in case of any incident, he told this reporter: “There is no insurance for cash and jewellry according to the present rules and regulation of the company, and no body can compensate for the loss of human life in case of any accident.”

He said that no security agency could compensate for huge amounts against the meagre monthly amount which the client paid monthly.
