PM urges uplift of backward areas

ISLAMABAD, March 19: Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali on Wednesday said the progress of underdeveloped areas was among the top priorities of his government.

Talking to various members of Parliament who called on him at Parliament Chambers, Mr Jamali said bringing underdeveloped areas at par with developed areas of the country was high on the Government’s welfare agenda.

Those who met the prime minister included Malik Amin Aslam and Malik Mohammad Aslam from Attock, Chaudhry Imranullah, Chaudhry Liaqat Abbass Bhatti and Chaudhry Mehdi Hasan Bhatti from the central Punjab and Chaudhry Mohammad Asim Nazir and Chaudhry Mohammad Safdar Shakir from Faisalabad.

The Parliamentarians apprised the prime minister of the problems of their respective areas.

Mr Jamali urged them to visit their constituencies and get a first-hand knowledge about the problems faced by the people of those areas.

He asked them to prepare welfare schemes and projects for the progress of their constituencies as people were pinning high hopes on them for their welfare. These schemes would be incorporated in the annual development programme, he added.

Mr Jamali said the federal government has already provided Rs5 million each to the members of the National Assembly and more development funds would be allocated to them in the next budget.

He said the MNAs have also been directed to submit their development projects to the Local Bodies Ministry for their execution to ensure transparency in use of funds.

Ahmad Raza Maneka MNA from Pak Pattan along with his father former MNA Mian Ghulam Mohammad Ahmad Maneka also called on Mr Jamali and discussed with him matters pertaining to his constituency.

He apprised the prime minister of various problems pertaining to gas and electricity which the people of his area were facing.

Meanwhile, Mr Jamali has advised all the concerned ministries and divisions to take necessary measures for ensuring prompt supply of essential commodities including edibles and petroleum products in case of attack on Iraq.—APP
